THE DRUMMER & THE KEEPER wins Best Feature Film at the 2017 Irish Film London Awards.  Jacob McCarthy also took home the Ros Hubbard Award for Acting, beating off stiff competition from Tom Vaughan-Lawlor and Ann Skelly.

THE DRUMMER & THE KEEPER will screen on Wednesday the 29th of November as part of the Irish Film Festival London.

Written and directed by Nick Kelly, whose short film SHOE was shortlisted for an Academy Award, THE DRUMMER & THE KEEPER was produced by Kate McColgan for Calico Pictures (FROM THE DARK), with support from the Irish Film Board. The film premiered at this year’s Galway Film Fleadh, taking home the award for Best First Irish Feature.

The film stars a collection of talented Irish actors including Dermot Murphy (CLEAN BREAK, RAW), Charlie Kelly (THE SECRET SCRIPTURE, JADOTVILLE), Peter Coonan (WHAT RICHARD DID, LOVE/HATE), Aoibhinn McGinnity (MOONE BOY, QUIRKE, LOVE/HATE), Annie Ryan (FERRIS BUELLER’S DAY OFF, LAWS OF ATTRACTION), Niamh Algar (WITHOUT NAME) and Jacob Mc Carthy.

THE DRUMMER AND THE KEEPER tells the story of the unlikely friendship formed between two young men; Gabriel, a reckless young drummer with bipolar disorder, who revels in rejecting society’s rules and Christopher, a 17 year old with Asperger’s Syndrome, who yearns to fit in. This heartwarming story shows the strength of the human bond in the face of adversity.

Element Pictures Distribution is delighted to announce that Brendan Muldowney’s PILGRIMAGE will be released in Irish cinemas on July 14th. The Irish action-thriller has wowed festival audiences, following its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival in April 2017 and its UK premiere at the Edinburgh Film Festival on June 24th 2017.

PILGRIMAGE will have its Irish premiere at the 29th Galway Film Fleadh on July 13th  and Irish audiences will have the chance to catch it in cinemas the following day. PILGRIMAGE boasts a stellar cast, including Tom Holland, Jon Bernthal and Richard Armitage. Holland will next be seen as Peter Parker in Marvel’s SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING. He also played Parker/Spider-Man in the hit Avengers movie CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR this past year. Bernthal will next be seen in the Netflix Original Series “Punisher” in which he reprises his role of Frank Castle from Marvel’s “Daredevil.”

The film was written by Jamie Hannigan and was produced by Conor Barry and John Keville of Dublin-based production outfit Savage Productions and Benoit Roland of Wrong Men. XYZ Films executive produced the film, with RLJ Entertainment taking domestic rights. The film was shot on location for over seven weeks on the West Coast of Ireland and the Ardennes Region of Belgium, and was developed with the assistance of the Bord Scannán na hÉireann/Irish Film Board and Creative Europe and was financed by Bord Scannán na hÉireann/Irish Film Board, the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland and Wallimage, Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles and BNP Paribas Fortis Film Finance.

But, as the true material, political and religious significance of the relic is revealed, the group’s journey becomes increasingly fraught with danger. Element Pictures Distribution are delighted to announce that Darren Thornton’s A DATE FOR MAD MARY will have its Irish Premiere this July as part of the 28th Galway Film Fleadh with an Irish release following on September 2nd.

A DATE FOR MAD MARY tells the story of ‘Mad’ Mary McArdle returning to Drogheda after a short spell in prison – for something she’d rather forget. Back home, everything and everyone has changed. Her best friend, Charlene, is about to get married and Mary is maid of honour. When Charlene refuses Mary a ‘plus one’ on the grounds that she probably couldn’t find a date, Mary becomes determined to prove her wrong. But her attempts at dating are a disaster and she winds up feeling more alone… until she meets Jess and everything changes.

It is a tough and tender story about friendship, first love, and letting go of the glory days, starring Seána Kerslake (Can’t Cope/Won’t Cope, The Lobster), Tara Lee (Raw, The Fall) and Charleigh Bailey.

A DATE FOR MAD MARY is Thornton’s debut feature film following his hugely acclaimed short film Frankie and IFTA award-winning Love is the Drug.

A DATE FOR MAD MARY is directed by Darren Thornton , written by Darren and Colin Thornton and produced by Ed Guiney (The Guard, The Lobster, Room) and Juliette Bonass (Get Up & Go, Glassland). The film is financed by the Irish Film Board, BAI and TV3.

A DATE FOR MAD MARY will have its world premiere at the 51st Karlovy Vary International Film Festival.

Element Pictures Distribution are delighted to announce that they have acquired the Irish & UK rights to Mark Noonan’s debut feature YOU’RE UGLY TOO.

The film stars Aidan Gillen (Game of Thrones) as Will, who is released from prison on compassionate leave to care for his niece Stacey (Lauran Kinsella; Albert Nobbs), after the death of her mother. As they both head into the sleepy Irish midlands and attempt to be a family, they suffer a series of setbacks. Stacey is refused admission to the local school because of her recently developed narcolepsy; Will repeatedly comes close to breaking his prison-ordered curfew; and his attempts at being a father figure to her prove disastrous…


YOU’RE UGLY TOO had its world premiere earlier this year at  the prestigious Berlin International Film Festival where it was praised by critics and audiences alike with the Hollywood Reporter commenting that “the film showcases lovely, unforced performances from Aidan Gillen and Lauren Kinsella .”


Ahead of its Irish Release, YOU’RE UGLY TOO will screen as part of the Edinburgh International Film Festival in June in the New Perspective Strand  which celebrates work from emerging filmmakers. In July, the film will return home to screen as part of the much-loved Galway Film Fleadh with an Irish release date set up July 24th

GLASSLAND tells the story of a young taxi driver on the fringes of the criminal underworld, who in an effort to save his mother from addiction and unite his broken family is forced to make a life changing moral decision.

Featuring a formidable cast with IFTA Winning Jack Reynor (WHAT RICHARD DID), fresh off Michael Bay’s TRANSFORMERS: AGE OF EXTINCTION opposite Mark Wahlberg and most recently Justin Kurzel’s MACBETH (which also stars Michael Fassbender). Now promise is fulfilled, with his return to the Fleadh for the World Premiere of his stunning second feature, GLASSLAND.
