THE LITTLE STRANGER tells the story of Dr Faraday, the son of a housemaid, who has built a life of quiet respectability as a country doctor. During the long hot summer of 1948, he is called to a patient at Hundreds Hall, where his mother once worked.  The Hall has been home to the Ayres family for more than two centuries.  But it is now in decline and its inhabitants – mother, son and daughter – are haunted by something more ominous than a dying way of life.  When he takes on his new patient, Faraday has no idea how closely, and how disturbingly, the family’s story is about to become entwined with his own.

The film is directed by Lenny Abrahamson (Oscar nominated for Room)produced by Gail Egan (The Constant Gardener), Andrea Calderwood (The Last King of Scotland) and Ed Guiney (Room); and executive produced by Cameron McCracken for Pathé, Daniel Battsek for Film4, Andrew Lowe for Element Pictures, Celine Haddad for the Irish Film Board and Tim O’Shea for Ingenious.

IRISH PREMIERE AT GALWAY FILM FLEADH THIS JULY WITH CINEMA RELEASE IN AUGUST

Element Pictures Distribution and Kew Media are delighted to announce that Maurice Sweeney’s I, DOLOURS will have its Irish Premiere this July as part of the 30th Galway Film Fleadh with an Irish release following on August 31st.

I, DOLOURS is a cinematic yet intimate and complex portrait of Dolours Price, militant IRA activist, hunger striker and vocal opponent of the peace process who two years before she died gave a filmed interview on condition that it would not be broadcast in her lifetime. Now for the first time her story can be told in full and entirely in her own words. This shocking film brings us deep inside the IRA and charts one woman’s journey from passionate idealist into disillusioned cynic, haunted by the memories of the terrible things she did for a cause she once so strongly believed in, she killed for it but, for which she believes was ultimately betrayed.

Dolours Price resists easy stereotyping – she was a ruthless revolutionary/terrorist who didn’t shirk any task, however brutal. She demanded her equal place among the male-dominated members of the IRA and was pitiless in her scorn for those who didn’t share her total commitment. She was also a beautiful, charismatic woman, loving mother, devoted sister and friend. She was passionate but fragile, dogmatic, yet tortured. Fascinating, moving and at times deeply disturbing – this is her story.

Director Sweeney commented “The story behind I DOLOURS fascinated me from day one.  This was a view of The Troubles from “The Inside” and Dolours never wavered in her honesty.  It was a very hard but rewarding film to make, dealing with death, force feeding and radicalisation.  I’m really excited and honoured to present the Irish premier of it at the Galway Film Fleadh. “

I, DOLOURS is directed by Maurice Sweeney and produced by Nuala Cunnigham and Ed Moloney with backing from Screen Ireland.

DUBLIN OLDSCHOOL HITS IRISH CINEMAS ON JUNE 29

WATCH & DOWNLOAD TEASER CLIP HERE

Element Pictures Distribution are delighted to announce that DUBLIN OLDSCHOOL will be released nationwide on June 29th.  Directed and co-written by Dave Tynan (Heartbreak, Just Sayin’) and starring Emmet Kirwan (’71, Heartbreak), Ian Lloyd Anderson (Love/Hate, Game of Thrones), Seana Kerslake (A Date for Mad Mary, Can’t Cope, Won’t Cope) and Sarah Greene (Noble, Rebellion).

DUBLIN OLDSCHOOL tells the story of Jason, a wannabe DJ, on a drug-fuelled trip through the streets of Dublin as he stumbles from one session to another. Somewhere between the DJs, decks, and drug busts he stumbles across a familiar face from the past, his brother Daniel.  Daniel, an educated heroin addict, is living on the streets. The brothers haven’t seen or spoken to each other in years but over a lost weekend they reconnect and reminisce over raves, tunes and their troubled past. Two brothers living very different lives might have more in common than they think.

Speaking on the release, director Dave Tynan commented “I’m delighted that Irish audiences get to see DUBLIN OLDSCHOOL this summer. This is a homegrown film, from its origins as Emmet’s play to its financing and production. I’m particularly proud I made it with the same gang I’ve been working with for years. We had an extraordinary cast and crew. It takes a village to make a film and I think we’ve made a funny, honest and powerful film. It means an awful lot to me too that this film will be shown on the big screen. Raves and cinemas are communal experiences; I can’t wait for crowds to see it in the dark together.”

DUBLIN OLDSCHOOL is directed by Dave Tynan and co-written by Dave Tynan and Emmet Kirwan, produced by Mike Donnelly, Dave Leahy with Liam Ryan as associate producer, Rory Gilmartin serving as executive producer for Element Pictures and Lesley McKimm as executive producer for the Irish Film Board. Production support for the project came from the Irish Film Board and Windmill Lane Pictures.

FIRST LOOK AT PADDY BREATHNACH’S ROSIE AS SHOOTING WRAPS

Element Pictures are delighted to announce that shooting will wrap this week on ROSIE, a new feature directed by Paddy Breathnach (VIVA, I WENT DOWN) and penned by award-winning Irish novelist Roddy Doyle (THE COMMITMENTS, WHEN BRENDAN MET TRUDY). ROSIE stars Sarah Greene (NOBLE, REBELLION) in the title role, alongside Moe Dunford (VIKINGS, HANDSOME DEVIL) as her partner John Paul.

ROSIE tells the story of a mother trying to protect her family after their landlord sells their rented home and they become homeless. Finding a room, even for a night, is a tough job and finding somewhere permanent to live is even harder. Within the confines of their car, Rosie and John Paul strive to maintain a loving home while shielding their young family from the reality of the situation around them. ROSIE examines how even in times of crises; the love and strength of a family can endure.

ROSIE is Roddy Doyle’s first original screenplay in 18 years and is a direct response to the current housing crisis in Ireland: ‘One morning, in late 2016, I was listening to the radio news and heard a young woman describing how she’d spent the previous day in her car, with her children, trying to find a place to stay that night.  I thought to myself as I listened: ‘That’s the story.’  I immediately went upstairs to my office and started writing the script.’

Director Paddy Breathnach commented: ‘Roddy’s script hooked me immediately. I found it compelling and pure. For me, it’s about the resilience and love of a family who find themselves under mounting pressure to find a place to stay for a night. There’s a tension, sadness, and humour in it that I knew could make a film about homelessness in an immediate and deeply human way.

ROSIE is produced by Emma Norton, Rory Gilmartin and Juliette Bonass. Ed Guiney and Andrew Lowe are Executive Producers for Element Pictures and Dearbhla Regan is the Irish Film Board Executive Producer.

Recent Element Productions include Yorgos Lanthimos’ THE KILLING OF A SACRED DEER and Lenny Abrahamson’s Academy Award and Golden Globe-winning ROOM.
