Following a rapturous reception at the Galway Film Fleadh where it scooped the Best Feature Documentary award,  Element Pictures Distribution  are delighted to announce that they have acquired the Irish & UK rights to Alex Fegan’s OLDER THAN IRELAND which tells the story of a hundred years of a life as seen through the eyes of thirty Irish centenarians.

Directed by award winning filmmaker Alex Fegan (The Irish Pub), OLDER THAN IRELAND features thirty men and women aged 100 years and over. Often funny and at times poignant, the film explores each centenarian’s journey, from their birth at the dawn of Irish independence to their life as a centenarian in modern day Ireland. OLDER THAN IRELAND’S observational style offers a rare insight into the personal lives of these remarkable individuals.

Reflecting on such key events as the day they got their first pair of shoes, the thrill of their first kiss, from the magic of their wedding day to the tragic loss of their loved ones, these

centenarians have lived through it all. Having witnessed a century of immense social, political and technological change each centenarian has a unique perspective on life and its true meaning.

From the oldest Irish person ever on record, 113-year-old Kathleen Snavely to Ireland’s oldest man, 108-year-old Luke Dolan we meet a colourful cast of characters, from all walks of life, from the four corners of Ireland. These centenarians are our living history and these are their extraordinary stories.

Speaking on the acquisition, Director Fegan commented that “Having worked with Element Pictures Distribution with The Irish Pub, we are very excited to be working with them again on Older Than Ireland. This documentary is a once in a lifetime opportunity to capture the life-story of 30 Irish centenarians, each born before 1916 and the foundation of the state. We know, working with Element, that we can reach the widest possible audience, who we are certain will be moved and inspired by the honesty and insights of these extraordinary citizens.”

Element Pictures Distribution are delighted to be continuing their relationship with Alex and bringing this wonderful film to the big screen on September 25th
