DUBLIN, IRELAND, September 4 – Element Pictures are delighted to announce that Lenny Abrahamson’s ROOM will have its World Premiere at the Telluride Film Festival which takes place in Colorado this weekend as hoards of film enthusiasts, filmmakers and critics gather in the beautiful town of Telluride for four days of the very best of new cinema. This prestigious festival ranks among the world’s best film festivals and is considered a major launching ground for the most highly anticipated films of the year and for many recent Oscar campaigns.
Speaking on the selection, Director Abrahamson commented that “Adam & Paul was in Telluride and I’ve been wanting to get back there ever since. It’s a unique festival – there’s really nothing else like it anywhere else – there’s no market, no hierarchy of industry and audience, just films and people who love films. I’m delighted to be launching ROOM there. It’s a real honour.”
Producer Ed Guiney said “The eyes of the movie world will be on Telluride this weekend and we will be there alongside the most hotly anticipated films of the year. Lenny, Emma and our wonderful cast and crew have made an amazing film. There is no better place to launch it.”
ROOM stars Brie Larson (Short Term 12, The Spectacular Now), Jacob Tremblay (The Smurfs 2, Somnia), Joan Allen (The Bourne Supremacy, Nixon) and William H. Macy (Shameless, Magnolia). Emma Donoghue adapted the screenplay from her book, the award-winning international phenomenon, ROOM.
Told through the eyes of five-year-old-Jack (Tremblay), ROOM is a thrilling and emotional tale that celebrates the resilience and power of the human spirit. To Jack, Room is the world…. It’s where he was born, it’s where he and his Ma (Larson) eat and sleep and play and learn. But while it’s home to Jack, to Ma it’s a prison. Through her fierce love for her son, Ma has managed to create a childhood for him in their ten-by-ten-foot space. But as Jack’s curiosity is building alongside Ma’s own desperation – she knows that Room cannot contain either indefinitely.
Element Pictures’ Ed Guiney (The Lobster, Frank, What Richard Did) produced ROOM with David Gross (What If, Goon). Executive producers are Andrew Lowe (The Lobster, Frank, The Wind that Shakes the Barley) for Element Pictures and Jeff Arkuss (What If) and Jesse Shapira (What If, Goon) for No Trace Camping. Emma Donoghue, Rose Garnett (Film 4), Tessa Ross (Film 4), and David Kosse (Film 4) also serve as executive producers.
ROOM was filmed at Pinewood Studios and on location in Toronto, and was post produced at Screen Scene in Dublin. The creative team includes director of photography Danny Cohen (The King’s Speech), production designer Ethan Tobman (That Awkward Moment), costume designer Lea Carlson (Take This Waltz), and Abrahamson’s regular collaborators, editor Nathan Nugent (Frank) and composer Stephen Rennicks (Frank, What Richard Did).
