Element Pictures Distribution are delighted to announce that they have acquired the Irish & UK rights to Mark Noonan’s debut feature YOU’RE UGLY TOO.

The film stars Aidan Gillen (Game of Thrones) as Will, who is released from prison on compassionate leave to care for his niece Stacey (Lauran Kinsella; Albert Nobbs), after the death of her mother. As they both head into the sleepy Irish midlands and attempt to be a family, they suffer a series of setbacks. Stacey is refused admission to the local school because of her recently developed narcolepsy; Will repeatedly comes close to breaking his prison-ordered curfew; and his attempts at being a father figure to her prove disastrous…

 

YOU’RE UGLY TOO had its world premiere earlier this year at  the prestigious Berlin International Film Festival where it was praised by critics and audiences alike with the Hollywood Reporter commenting that “the film showcases lovely, unforced performances from Aidan Gillen and Lauren Kinsella .”

 

Ahead of its Irish Release, YOU’RE UGLY TOO will screen as part of the Edinburgh International Film Festival in June in the New Perspective Strand  which celebrates work from emerging filmmakers. In July, the film will return home to screen as part of the much-loved Galway Film Fleadh with an Irish release date set up July 24th

ELEMENT PICTURES CELEBRATES MULTIPLE WINS FROM THE CANNES FILM FESTIVAL & THE IFTAS

There’s much to celebrate tonight for leading Irish Production Company Element Pictures as their latest feature THE LOBSTER picks up the highly coveted award for The Jury Prize  at the closing ceremony of the 68th Cannes Film Festival.

 

THE LOBSTER marks Element Pictures sixth film in official selection at Cannes in recent years and its third win with Ken Loach’s THE WIND THAT SHAKES THE BARLEY taking home the Palme d’Or in 2006 and Lenny Abrahamson’s  GARAGE winning the CICAE Prize at Directors’ Fortnight in 2007.

 

Speaking from Cannes, Element Pictures Producer Ed Guiney commented that “It’s a complete dream to get into the main competition at Cannes but then to win this amazing award is a huge and brilliant accolade for the film, for Yorgos and for our brilliant cast and crew.”

 

Featuring an all-star cast including Colin Farrell, Rachel Weisz, Léa Seydoux, John C Reilly, Ben Whishaw, Olivia Colman and Michael Smiley, THE LOBSTER is a blackly funny love story set in a near future where finding love is a matter of life or death. Irish Audiences will have the chance to see THE LOBSTER when it goes on release in the Autumn through Element Pictures Distribution.

 

Element Pictures also took home a total of four awards from the Mansion House tonight, including Best Director for Lenny Abrahamson’s FRANK with Domhnall Gleeson taking home the award for Best supporting actor also for FRANK where he plays a wannabe musician who quickly finds out he’s bitten off more than he can chew when he’s joins a band of eccentric pop musicians. James Mather picked up the best cinematography award for FRANK with Aiden Gillen scooping the award for actor in lead role in drama for CHARLIE.

 

In a joint comment, Element Pictures Producers Ed Guiney & Andrew Lowe commented that “These awards are a wonderful testament to all the brilliant film makers, cast and crew we have worked with over the last year or so. IRISH ACTOR JACK REYNOR HONOURED AT THE SUNDANCE FILM FESTIVAL FOR GLASSLAND

Following unanimous praise for his performance in Gerard Barrett’s GLASSLAND, Jack  Reynor  was awarded a special Jury Prize  at the closing ceremony for the 2015 Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah.

The Hollywood Reporter commented on his “exceptional work” and how “several close-ups of Reynor’s face as he beams with love or is fraught with worry…confirm the actor’s impressive talent for conveying emotions without using words.”

The highly influential site Indiewire highlighted Reynor’s “career-making performance…while subdued, stands out because of its naturalistic humanity.”

The Cinephile website the Film Experience describe the film as “gut-wrenching” and that “Jack Reynor (future star) ably carries the movie” while the PeopleMovies site comment that “Reynor is the heart at the rock of the narrative.”

Speaking on the award Reynor commented ‘I’m absolutely thrilled to have been considered and to have won a prize at Sundance this year. It’s definitely a reflection of the work of everybody who was part of the film and I’m incredibly proud to have worked with all of them.’

Jack’s breakout performance was in Lenny Abrahamson’s What Richard Did (also produced by Element Pictures) which debuted at the 2012 Toronto International Film Festival and screened at the 2013 Tribeca Film Festival bringing Jack to the attention of Hollywood.

This led to parts in The Delivery Man (2013) with Vince Vaughan and  the fourth installment of the Transformer series, starring alongside Mark Wahlberg. Reynor has recently finished filming the upcoming adaptation of Shakespeare’s Macbeth, directed by Justin Kurzel, playing the role of Malcom alongside Marion Cotillard and Michael Fassbender as well as John Carney’s Sing Street. He is currently shooting Jim Sheridan’s The Secret Scripture with Rooney Mara.

TERRIFIC REACTION TO IRISH FILM GLASSLAND AT ITS INTERNATIONAL PREMIERE AT THE SUNDANCE FILM FESTIVAL

FRANK WINS AT BIFA’S

Element Pictures were thrilled with the double- win for Lenny Abrahamson’s FRANK at last night’s British Independent Film Awards.

Abrahamson’s long-term collaborator Stephen Rennicks picked up the award for Technical Achievement in Music and FRANK also won Best Screenplay for Jon Ronson and Peter Straughan.

The star-studded ceremony was held at Old Billingsgate and was hosted by THE INBETWEENERS star, Simon Bird. Created in 1998 by Raindance founder Elliot Grove, The British Independent Film Awards sets out to celebrate merit and achievement in independently funded filmmaking.

FRANK follows wannabe musician Jon (Domhnall Gleeson), who discovers he’s bitten off more than he can chew when he joins a band of eccentric pop musicians led by the mysterious and enigmatic Frank (Michael Fassbender) and his terrifying sidekick Clara (Maggie Gyllenhaal).

FRANK was released in Ireland & the UK earlier this year to both critical & commercial acclaim with Indiewire describing the film as “a terrific and sublime experience” with The Guardian saying “it is something rather exceptional.”

Speaking on the wins, Producer Ed Guiney commented that “I’m so pleased for everyone involved in FRANK, it was such a great project to work on and we’re honored to get such recognition from the BIFA’S.”

Featuring a formidable cast with IFTA Winning Jack Reynor (WHAT RICHARD DID), fresh off Michael Bay’s TRANSFORMERS: AGE OF EXTINCTION opposite Mark Wahlberg and most recently Justin Kurzel’s MACBETH (which also stars Michael Fassbender). FRANK TO SCREEN AT SXSW FESTIVAL

Following on from its world premiere, US distribution deal and huge critical acclaim last month at the Sundance Film Festival, FRANK is now Austin-bound to play at the visionary SXSW festival in March.

FRANK will screen as part of the Festival Favorites strand, which showcases acclaimed standouts and previous premieres. The South by SouthWest Festival (SXSW) presents the best in new independent music and film every year in Austin, Texas.  It  is now considered the destination for the game-changing buzz every filmmaker dreams of.

Element Pictures are delighted with today’s announcement that Lenny Abrahamson’s much anticipated FRANK has been selected to screen as part of the prestigious Premiere’s section at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival, January 16-26, which showcases the very best of independent cinema.

FRANK is an offbeat comedy about a wannabe musician who finds himself out of his depth when he joins a maverick rock band led by the enigmatic Frank – a musical genius who hides himself inside a large fake head.
