Director Paolo Sorrentino’s much-anticipated English Language debut THIS MUST BE THE PLACE is a comic, charmingly oddball road movie with a sincere, emotional heart, smart dialogue and images of breathtaking, lingering beauty.
Starring two time Academy Award winner Sean Penn (as you’ve never seen him before) as Cheyenne, a middle-aged wealthy former goth rock star now bored and jaded in his retirement, living in Dublin off his royalties. Learning his father is close to death, he travels to New York in the hope of being reconciled with him during his final hours, only to arrive too late. Having been estranged for over 30 years, it is only now in death that he learns the true extent of his father’s humiliation in Auschwitz at the hands of former SS Officer Aloise Muller - an event he was determined to avenge. Cheyenne decides to pick up where his father left off, and starts a life altering journey, at his own pace, into the heartland of America. As his quest unfolds, reawakened by the people he encounters, Cheyenne must finally decide if it is redemption he seeks…or revenge.
“A film that brims with warmth, humanity and respect in ways one doesn’t often find in the work of coolmeisters like David Lynch and Quentin Tarantino. Quirky, hilarious and moving, Sorrentino’s first English-lingo production is a road trip of stunning scope yet deep intimacy”
Jay Weissberg - Variety
THIS MUST BE THE PLACE stars Sean Penn, Frances Mc Dormand, Eve Hewson, David Byrne, Judd Hirsch, Kerry Condon and Harry Dean Stanton.
